Montana Western TRIO SSS Mentor Program

The mission of the TRIO Student Support Services Peer Mentoring Program is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment at for new TRIO members at Montana Western. Good mentoring helps new TRIO students understand and adapt to the academic, social, political, and cultural customs of the university system. TRIO mentors can be thought of as confidants, coaches, or “door-openers” that assist students through the college maze. A successful TRIO mentoring program will help improve academic motivation, performance, and retention of new Montana Western TRIO students. As part of the TRIO SSS Peer Mentoring Program, students can apply their mentoring hours toward programs such as Campus Corps and most mentors are eligible to earn a stipend for each semester of mentoring that they contribute.
