Commencement Information


Important Commencement-related Information

 The following individuals are eligible to participate in upcoming UMW commencement ceremonies:
 

  • Previous year Summer graduates,
     
  • Previous year Fall graduates,
     
  • Applicants/candidates for graduation for the current year Spring (check graduation applicant lists on the bulletin board outside the Financial Aid Office for names of those who qualify),  
  • Applicants/candidates for graduation for the current year Summer term (check graduation applicant lists on the bulletin outside the Financial Aid Office for names of those who qualify), AND who are approved to participate via the Early Graduation Petition process (note EGP application deadlines, etc).  
     

The University of Montana Western conducts one commencement ceremony each year, usually the first Saturday following the end of Spring Semester classes and final exams. Check the current academic year calendar for commencement dates.

The following information is specific to current year Montan Western commencement activities and costs, etc. If you are eligible to participate in commencement please review this information carefully; commencement related deadlines are STRICTLY enforced, so take action on a timely basis. NOTE: All candidates and escorts participating in the commencement ceremonies must arrive no later than 10:15 am and be assembled no later than 10:30 am in the Keltz Arena. LATE ARRIVALS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE ONCE THE LINE OF CANDIDATES AND ESCORTS IS FORMED.

 

Helpful Hints

 

 

 

  • Hang up your gowns to let the wrinkles out, or have the gowns pressed.
  • Men should wear shirts & ties under their gowns.
  • Caps should be worn level on top of the head, with the point in the middle of the forehead.
  • Tassels are worn over the left temple at all times.
  • No pins or jewelry should be worn over the top of nor attached to the gown or cap.




    Disabilities Services

    Candidates needing disability services in order to participate in commencement must notify the Registrar’s Office (683-7215) at least three (3) weeks before commencement (April 24, 2008). Please specify services required.




    Please note: Commencement fees must be paid in advance. Students who fail to pay the fees will not be able to obtain caps and gowns. In addition, all obligations to the university must be met before graduates can receive diplomas, or have transcripts sent.
